Το Κέντρο Τεχνών Μετς συμμετέχει φέτος στην Art Athina (περίπτερο L30) παρουσιάζοντας το έργο επτά καλλιτεχνών. Ανάμεσά τους, ο Γιώργος Κόρδης, διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένος ζωγράφος με σημαντική παρουσία στη σύγχρονη ελληνική και διεθνή σκηνή, καθώς και ο Γιάννης Τζερμιάς, γνωστός καλλιτέχνης με διεθνή πορεία και πρώην συνεργάτης της αίθουσας τέχνης Μέδουσας. Δίπλα τους, οι νέοι συνεργαζόμενοι με το Μετς εικαστικοί: Δημήτρης Παπαδόπουλος, Βούλη Πανταζίδου, Φανή Πανταζίδου, Εμμέλεια Φιλιπποπούλου και Δανάη Τσολάκη. Με διαφορετικά εκφραστικά μέσα, όλοι συνθέτουν μια κοινή αφήγηση που αναδεικνύει την πολυφωνία και την καλλιτεχνική δυναμική του Κέντρου. Η φετινή μας παρουσία, υπό τον τίτλο In the Realm of Contrast, χαρακτηρίζεται από μια αυστηρή ασπρόμαυρη αισθητική, που αναδεικνύει τη βαρύτητα και την καθαρότητα αυτής της επιλογής. Το μότο Black and White and the Space In Between γίνεται μια δήλωση για την ουσία της αντίθεσης στην τέχνη αλλά και για τον χώρο που γεννιέται ανάμεσά τους.
Το άσπρο και το μαύρο, η απόλυτη σύγκρουση και ταυτόχρονα η τέλεια ισορροπία, παραπέμπουν στην αιώνια συζήτηση γύρω από το φως και το σκοτάδι, το ορατό και το κρυμμένο. Στην ιστορία της ζωγραφικής, η ασπρόμαυρη κλίμακα υπήρξε η βάση της σπουδής και του σχεδίου, αλλά και συνδέθηκε με την ελληνική κληρονομιά της αρχαιοελληνικής γραμμής: το περίγραμμα και το σκαρίφημα, την πρώτη ύλη από όπου γεννιέται ο ζωγραφικός κόσμος. Εδώ, μέσα από τις τονικές κλίμακες και τις λεπτές διαβαθμίσεις, το έργο απογυμνώνεται από τον λυρισμό του χρώματος και αποκαλύπτει την τολμηρή του αλήθεια. Είναι η στιγμή που η ζωγραφική μετριέται καθαρά, με μοναδικό γνώμονα το φως και τη σκιά.

The Mets Arts Center participates this year in Art Athina (booth L30), presenting the work of seven artists. Among them, Giorgos Kordis, an internationally acclaimed painter with a strong presence in both the Greek and international art scene, as well as Yiannis Tzermias, a renowned artist with an international career and former collaborator of Medusa Art Gallery. Alongside them, the emerging artists collaborating with the Mets Arts Center: Dimitris Papadopoulos, Vouli Pantazidou, Fani Pantazidou, Emmeleia Filippopoulou, and Danai Tsolaki. Through diverse expressive media, they compose a shared narrative that highlights the polyphony and artistic dynamism of the Center.
Our presentation this year, under the title In the Realm of Contrast, is defined by a strict black-and-white aesthetic, illuminating the gravity and clarity of this choice. The motto Black and White and the Space In Between becomes a statement on the very essence of artistic opposition, as well as the fertile ground that emerges between the two.
Black and white, the ultimate clash and at the same time the perfect balance, point to the eternal dialogue between light and darkness, the visible and the hidden. Throughout the history of painting, the black-and-white scale has been the foundation of study and drawing, while also linking back to the Greek heritage of the ancient line: outline and sketch as the primal substance from which the pictorial world is born. Here, through tonal gradations and subtle shifts, the work is stripped of the lyricism of color and reveals its daring truth. It is the moment when painting is measured purely, with light and shadow as its only compass.
